Q. Why should I have an energy audit?

A. To receive rebate $ from power companies or government an audit is required. An energy audit is a methodical & technical way to find out where your house is losing energy A trained energy auditor can develop a prioritized report to identify the best sequence to invest in for improvements in your home thus making it more energy efficient. With the proper equipment an auditor can view what is going on inside your walls. A trained auditor should look at all aspects of your home which contribute to energy loss such as the basement, attic, walls, windows, & mechanicals.

Q. Why should I select Alternatives Energy Audits (AEA) as my auditor?

A. WE ARE independent; WE WORK for you the home owner. Many of our competitors work for suppliers and may only offer you one solution, because that is what they sell. They also may not have the breadth of knowledge (WE HAVE 30+ YEARS) to offer you all the options you need to make a decision. We are NOT owned by a trade or supplier, thus WE WILL provide you all the options you need to effectively make your home more energy efficient

WE HAVE considerable experience in building energy efficient homes and in using the different technologies, modular, timberframe. SIPS, ICF and 2x6 panelized to build a home. This experience makes it easy to identify problem that are caused by the specific construction. Without this experience opportunities will be missed. Q. I was told replacing my windows would fix my energy bill is that true?

A. Windows are not the first place to invest to improve energy efficiency of your home. You will see bigger improvements in your energy bill by installing the correct insulation in the best places first. A lot of times the windows are actually fine it is the installation of them that causes the problems. WE REVIEW the whole house, including your windows.

Q. I want to install renewable energy in my home, where do I start?

A. The first place you start is with an energy audit to identify heat loss opportunities. These must be fixed first for any renewable energy option to work correctly.

Q. What if I do not have an Energy Audit?

A. Any insulation improvements you make on your own may not be the right choice for the maximum effect. The wrong choice can actually make your house situation worse, for example: replacing windows is first on most homeowners to do list (BECAUSE THIS IS WHAT THEY HEAR IN THE MEDIA), but replacing windows should be the LAST home improvement you do, WE CAN HELP you look at your entire home to and prioritize the most important improvements to be done.

Q. What certifications do you have to conduct an energy audit?

A. We have Building Performance Institute (BPI) certification and Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rater.

Q. Should I have an energy audit done on a house I am considering buying?

A. Absolutely! It is the only way to know what is inside those walls and to know how much you will have to invest to make that house energy efficient.

Q. Can doing an energy audit improve the salability of my home?

A. Doing an audit and them doing the improvements to make the house energy efficient will make it a much better investment for the future home owner verse what else is on the market.
